After the drawings are complete, the work is bid out, the contractor selected-the project is built. If you have solid experience in the construction field, you may have the chops to watch over the project through completion.

But chances are you don’t. Nor does your brother in law, the weekend warrior contractor who puts up fences and does miscellaneous screen repair.

You need an advocate, agent and problem solver who can:

Monitor the construction, making sure what’s built is what’s on the drawings, and meets spec’s

Help advise that what the constructor is billing for is correct, and the schedule is being met

Address product substitutions, concealed conditions

And so forth…

That’s among the reasons to keep your architect involved during construction.
